A New Moon for Bold Beginnings

New Moon in Aries — April 17th

There's something about a new moon that always finds me. I'm the kind of person who puts her crystals out to charge during a full moon and calls it a night — but a new moon is different. It's quieter. A reminder that the slate is clean again, that the sky is giving me permission to start over. Sometimes it's just me, a candle, and my little orange notebook at the kitchen table after the kids go to bed. And for me, right now, that's enough.

I've been sitting with this Aries new moon, and I knew I needed my friend — an astrologer and intuitive healer, Chloe Kangalee — to help me put words to what I was feeling. Here's what she wants you to know about this one:

“The Aries new moon is one of the most potent of the year, primarily because it’s the first one in the new zodiacal calendar and secondly it gives us an extra gift of wrapping up or releasing anything from the last Zodiac cycle. Finally, there are 8 celestial bodies residing in Aries for this new moon which is ALOT of added energy and power.

Aries is our fire, passion and fight. We are invited to utilise this energy to plant the seeds of intention for the next lunation, and the following 12 months.

This new moon is particularly powerful because it asks us to DREAM BIG and fight for our desires.”

So here's what I'm doing on the 17th, and what I'd invite you to do too.

A Simple Ritual

You don't need anything fancy. You just need to show up.

Light a candle. Sit somewhere quiet for five minutes. Take a few slow breaths and let yourself land.

Then open a notebook and write three things you're calling in this moon cycle. Things that feel true and a little scary to write down. Then write down one thing you're ready to release.

Close your notebook. Sit with the candle for another minute. That's it. That's the whole ritual.

A Journaling Prompt

What have I been waiting for permission to begin?

Sit with that one. Let it be uncomfortable. Aries energy doesn't let us stay small for long.

Come Back to Your Body

After your ritual, do something slow and sensory to close it out. Make a cup of tea. Step outside and breathe the air. The ritual isn't just in the writing, it's in the returning. Back to yourself and back to the present.

That's what this whole thing is about, really. Not perfection or having it all figured out. Just showing up, noticing, and being willing to begin again.

Happy new moon. 🌑
